WHAT'S NEW - WHAT'S INSPIRING
SWATCHES

SWATCHES

This week we're featuring some of our favorite dresses in our favorite fabrics. We have a dress pattern for every style and body type and, of course, every fabric you can imagine to make it happen! Shown above is Suzan's latest piece, her ESP dress by Decades of Style. Check out the FabricLady blog post below on this great pattern that we're all loving. Next to the ESP is Mary Jane's Simone dress by Victory Patterns featured in this blog post. We love patterns like these two that really show off the fabric, giving you endless options to showcase your creativity!

NAVIGATING NOTIONS:  HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN BIAS TAPE
- - - - -
Bias tape is one of the most versatile notions:  it can invisibly finish a seam, it can bind layers of fabric together in a matching color, or it can bring your piece to the next level with a contrasting color or pattern.  It can be as little as 1/4" wide or as big as 2" wide, single fold or double fold, woven or knit...there is a lot of options!  But if you're only relying on premade bias tape, you don't have as many options.  Once you learn how easy it is to make your own, the possibilities are endless!

This classic dress has a gathered skirt attached to a fitted bodice. What we have found is that almost all body shapes look good in this design, which is probably why it had survived countless fashion trends over the years.  Gathering fabric is relatively simple - sew two rows of basting stitches along the waist of the skirt and after pulling the threads to gather the fabric, be sure to sew it on the gathered side, avoiding puckers in the skirt.
