Our Newest Indie Pattern Company - Bonjour Teaspoon!

You know by now how much we love stocking independent pattern companies.  We especially get excited about companies that fill a specific need or cater to a more niche audience than just women's clothing.  We found that tween girls were a hard category to find patterns for — girls looking for something more mature than little kid clothes, but who may not fit in the size range for adult women yet.  Luckily, there is a pattern company just for this, and even better, she's local!  But before I go too far, I'll let her introduce herself!

I'm Jennifer Serr, owner and creator of Bonjour Teaspoon Sewing Patterns.  While on a couture tour in Paris, I met a very special little pug named Teaspoon.  Teaspoon now represents all things cute and fabulous to me, and thus inspired the name of this enterprise.  Now a little dog named Magic keeps me company in the studio, when I'm not making patterns or teaching kids how to sew.

Along with teaching, I've developed this collection of patterns appropriate to the beginning and intermediate level sewer.  Keeping my students in mind is important when creating patterns in this collection, so most of my designs are for modern young ladies with a classic style.

I made this special version of the Mia Dress to celebrate our newest vendor, Stonemountain & Daughter Fabrics.  The dress was made using Cotton + Steel fabric, all available in store and online through Stonemountain!  The bodice is a soft cotton jersey knit, and the skirt is made from three different rayon challis fabrics.  So pretty and easy to sew with.

Bodice Fabric:  It's a Plus in Cream.  Skirt Fabrics:  Rayon Gemstone - Pink, Rayon Birch Floral - Periwinkle, and solid blue rayon challis.

While the Mia Dress may look complicated, it's actually rather simple — a knit bodice sewn on to a gathered skirt with ties attached to a waistband that is sandwiched in the waist seam.  Using multiple fabrics, you can create a unique look every time you make it.

The Mia Dress and a selection of the Bonjour Teaspoon pattern collection is now available at Stonemountain & Daughter.  You can find out more about me and the classes we teach at The Sewing Room in Alameda by visiting our website.

Until next time, and Happy Sewing!

-Jennifer
